by Jô Soares
I guess I forgot one book to my reading list last year. It was a book by Jô Soares “O Xangô de Baker Street” which I read in German.
Soares is a famous humorist from Rio de Janeiro who published three books so far. It is not high-literature, therefore I thought this book book be a good candidate to improve my Portuguese, I actually can understand it.. Good choice! I understood the story, I even knew who is the murderer after 20% of the book; it is funny and it has a lot of dialogues. I really was able to learn. The story is rather weak but as I said: it is definitely funny. And it draws a picture of the twenties in Rio. In that year “Cristo Rentendor” was erected, trams are moving the people of Rio and back then everybody wanted copy Paris. OK, I just had fun.
