by Gabriel García Márquez
The title makes you want to read the book especially if its written by a Nobel laureate. I actually listened to it. The main character on its 90th birthday wants to make himself a birthday gift: sleeping with a virgin girl. All his life he had paid for sex, and he turns to his old madam to organize the encounter. Despite of laying down with the young girl, he has never sex with her, and the first time in his life he falls in love. That love changes the tone of his weekly column in the local newspaper, for which he had written his entire life. He becomes a star again, apparently the audience longed for such statements of unconditional and romantic love. Now he can die in peace, because he will die in love. That is the current time level, in flashbacks he remembers his live.
