by Michael Köhlmeier
A book about Joel Spazierer, a man without moral. He is a barbarian, later blackmailer, counterfeiter, thief, cold-blooded, vindictive, greedy. Even a five-times murderer but you are with him, you hope that he gets away. He is a master of manipulation. And on the way you get to know a lot about the Hungarian dictatorship after the II World War, about the Hungarians in Austria. He even ends up as professor of philosophy in the GDR pretending to be a grandson of Ernst Thälmann, the murdered communist leader in Nazi Germany. As professor he does actually the same thing as always in life, let others speak and just repeat what they have said. A master of manipulation. The book is a page-turner.
