by Amir Hassan Cheheltan
The honeypot for the uninformed reader is the following introduction scenario: a former torturer of the Iranian Mullah regime became an entrepreneur in the hospital business. He fixes hymen of fallen girls, so that they become virgins again. He falls in love with one of his clients. This leads to fatal consequences since she is in love with young Mustafa, who works also in the infamous jail, where regime opponents are tortured and killed. But she does not know. In flashbacks the live of the hymen expert is told, before and after the revolution. It is truly not black and white, in fact you cannot love or hate any of the protagonists, everybody has reasons for what he or she is doing, and everybody has ugly sides. Nobody is entirely sympathetic.
As a reader I learned a lot about the Iranian reality. the book was not published in Iran, the first published version was the German translation.
