by Yann Martel
Having to cross the Adriatic Sea by ferry and going by train from Bari to Rome I needed to buy more literature. Between all the usual beach literature I found the Life of Pi in a Dubrovnik bookstore. What a relief since with the recent movie I learned that it is a beautiful book.
Yes, it seems unbelievable that such a story between a shipwrecked Indian boy and a Bengal tiger could draw you absolutely in. But it happened to me, I couldn’t see the metaphysical aspect as the predominant one as many critics wrote, I guess that was just due to the rather cheesy idea, that Pi practiced all three big religions. I was more fascinated by the relationship between men and nature, and how to survive – even that there are so many fantastic sections in the description.
Now I will watch the movie!
