by Arnaldo Jabor
I bought this book for two reasons: first I wanted to explore more contemporary Brazilian literature; second I like Jabor’s movie “Eu sei que vou te amar”, which won in Cannes in 1973. Funny isn’t it? Since there is no reason why an interesting movie -make should be also good at writing. Luckily he did not disappoint. His observations of teh life and politics around him are very precise, always written with a distance to his subject but with passion. The book is basically a collection of small chronicles for several Brazilian publications. Pornopolítica is the title of one of those texts. I did not always agree with him, but he makes you think to find arguments to substantiate your own opinion. For somebody living in Brazil it is definitely a vitalizing read.
