by Helge Schneider
I started to listen to audio books when I go to and from work. I will include them into this this blog from now on.
Helge Schneider is an icon of absurd comedy in Germany. You hate or like him. There is nothing in between. I like him, and I do not care if it is bad literature. I just want to have a god laugh. And actually he plays along this thin line where you do not know if he is on purpose bad or if he just cannot do better. I think it is a mix and he is sufficiently self-critical to know his limits and just plays with it. You can hear that in the audiobook since he has to laugh at his won texts. He tries to suppress it but you hear it. But maybe even that is intention.
This kind of humor works, of course, only in German. There are too many twisted wordplays in it.
The story? Does not matter. Commissar Schneider tries to catch a ruthless murderer – called “Die Satanskralle von Singapur” (the satan’s claw from Singapore). His wife bothers him as usual and he experiences the realities of parallel universes. I laughed a lot!
