by Tschingis Aitmatow
These are episodes of Aitmatov’s childhood in Kyrkyzstan – told by himself and recored by his German translator. It is praised as key to his work. But this is not the case. Clearly not great literature. One aspect which surprised me unpleasantly was the fact that here referred to his father only as victim of the Stalinist cleanings during the Thirties. Strange, I mean Stalin killed him for nothing as so many other innocent people.
