by Arundhati Roy
There cannot be said anything what you cannot find somewhere in the internet. I read first her political essays, and since then I wanted to read this book. Reading the
wikipedia article, it seems very autobiographical.
The essence is the impossible relationship between an untouchable and a touchable in the context of the Indian cast system. The interesting thing for me was that I understood the first time what it really means. And I understood how much it still shapes the Hindu society. The language inventions I found rather irritating, but these reflect obviously the special, imaginary world of the children.
It must be underlined that the novel is perfectly plotted, approaching the crucial spot from both sides: from the present back and also from the bast forward. Sometimes it is hard to follow.
