It is a best-seller. It is a long-seller. it is exceptional. Most exceptional books do not fulfil the first condition. This book you can find on every flee-market in South-America. I was fascinated when I read it the first time – 20 years ago – , I did not expect that much this time – I just wanted to kill the meantime during carnival in Olinda. But, I got drawn into it again. This killer who does perceive that is an “evil-doer”. is so fascinating, again I was on his side, maybe except during his childhood. What a pity for us readers if he would have been killed by the other kids which just knew that something is wrong with him.
By the way, I find the movie adaptation not that bad as some critics suggest. I found it a rather congenious realisation of the original idea. Besides this, the book is always richer if one has enough imagination.
