by Jorge Volpi
German Physicists in the first half of the 20th century. This novel is for me all about this exiting story of science. How often can it happen that so many geniuses are born at the same time, thrown together and torn away as enemies? Some of the greatest and most influential discoveries of the 20th century were made by the circle around Planck, Einstein, Bohr and Heisenberg. These are only a few protagonists of this novel. The fictive story around the history of science is rather poor but as enthusiast I managed to ignore this fact. Nevertheless, Gabriel Garci-Marquez’ claim, that Volpi is the only write who is better than him, is totally wrong – not even exaggerated. It is actually an entertaining documentary, but not a novel.
