by Alberto Moravia
Stories from. Rome. These short stories are not about the historical places but about the losers of the society who live in the suburbs. I read Moravia’s novel “Dangerous Game” when I visited Naples the last time. Back then I could connect the story so well with what I was seeing in reality. I liked his unsentimental, almost cruel view on human behaviour. The same view I found again in these tales from Rome. I recommend story No. 8 (The false 10.000 lira note), No. 25 (The old fool – an encouragement for all old men who are still on the hunt) and No. 40 ( The little man – for obvious reasons). I will definitely read more books from Moravia. Hopefully in the future in Italian.
